Rady School MBA Students Win Several Innovation Competitions
By Keri Peckham, Rady School of Management Staff

Rady School of Management MBA student Aron Tremble and his team were recently awarded $50,000 from the von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement at the Jacobs School of Engineering. Code-named IGMA, their winning technology is being developed within the computer science and engineering department at the Jacobs School and enables semantic search and discovery of music. The IGMA team will use the grant to develop scalable commercial prototypes.

von Liebig Center grants are awarded semi-annually on a competitive basis to outstanding technologies with strong commercial potential. Selection involves a rigorous vetting process by domain experts and leaders in the entrepreneurial community.

2007 Rady MBA graduate Craig Braun, vice president of sales and marketing for Omega Sensors, won first place and $30,000 in the final round of the UCSD $50K Entrepreneurship Competition. The second place finisher in the competition was AlisTech, an oncology biotech venture led by Nick Boyle, Brian Guzik, Vanee Pho, Mike Sitzmann and Bill Warner, all from the Full-Time MBA class of 2007. AlisTech received a $10,000 second place prize for their San Diego-based start up.

The UCSD $50k Entrepreneurship Competition was designed to foster community involvement and technological innovation by bringing multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists and business-minded students together with local area entrepreneurs and professionals.
