Employee Ownership Conference Offers Great Opportunities to Network and Learn
By Anna Wood-Vasey, Beyster Institute Staff

Here in San Diego we’re getting ready for the 2007 Employee Ownership Conference, a three-day meeting that brings together the people and companies that make employee ownership work. Whether you’re new to employee ownership or want to keep up-to-date on the latest issues, this conference will help you on your journey. With over 50 breakout sessions and many networking opportunities, this is the place to meet people who have been there and can help you find your way.

If you want to learn the basics, start with the kickoff session, Overview of the World of ESOPs & Equity Compensation. After lunch, head over to ESOP Basic Administration or Equity Compensation Basics. Hear about fresh new employee ownership ideas when the Innovations in Employee Ownership Awards are presented on Thursday morning. Network with other employee-owners in your industry at the Learning Exchange on Friday morning, and visit the exhibit tables to find people who can help you with your specific needs.

If you already have an employee ownership program and are looking for ways to develop it, start Wednesday with Emerging and Innovative Practices with ESOP Capital. Choose sessions from any of our five learning tracks to tailor the conference to fit your needs. Learn how to use employee ownership to market your company to both employees and customers. Find out about open-book management, and make sure to sit in on a leadership session for innovative ideas on how to lead an employee-owned company.

At the conference you can hear many employee ownership success stories, such as that of SAIC. Founded by Dr. J.R. Beyster in 1969, SAIC grew from a very small company to having over 43,000 employee-owners. Learn more about this company's story on Wednesday night at a book signing reception for the new book The SAIC Solution, where you'll have a chance to speak with Dr. Beyster, a strong supporter of employee ownership, and co-author Peter Economy.

Another writer at the conference will be this year’s keynote speaker, William Taylor, co-author of Mavericks at Work, which highlights successful companies that are rethinking the logic of how business gets done.

With a plethora of innovative ideas, creative solutions, and practical advice, this year’s conference will provide a wealth of information and networking opportunities for anyone interested or involved in employee ownership.
