Exciting New Program for Employee Ownership Company Managers Coming This Fall
By Beyster Institute Staff

In October 2007, the Beyster Institute at the Rady School of Management, UC San Diego, will be offering a breakthrough program for people in management positions at employee ownership companies. Presented in conjunction with guest faculty from the University of Wisconsin, the faculty of the Rady School and employee ownership experts from the Beyster Institute, the program will offer participants an opportunity to thoroughly explore many of the issues that face employee ownership company managers every day.

All courses are designed and developed specifically to address the needs of managers in employee ownership environments. Course work will include a range of topics such as a managers’ “how-to” for improving employees’ financial understanding of the company and using employee ownership to help brand and market the company.

Specialized additional work will include in-depth explorations of fiduciary roles and considerations and the many special compliance and administrative needs of employee ownership company managers. The culmination of the program will be a half-day visit to one of the most successful employee ownership companies in California and a networking luncheon during which participants can both test their learning and expand their support system.

Perhaps the most beneficial aspect of the program is that it will allow managers to take advantage of the best resource employee ownership companies have at their disposal – others in the community who have already been through the process successfully.

In short, this program is a must for anyone involved in the management of a company that is owned (all or partially) by its employees through any of the employee ownership vehicles currently authorized by law, including ESOPs, KSOPs, broad-based option plans, etc.

We don’t like to brag, but Corey Rosen, the Executive Director of the National Center for Employee Ownership had this to say about the program:

"Most meetings of this type, frankly, operate at a very high level of generality. All too often, they focus on vague and banal concepts, such “learning to trust,” rather than specific, replicable strategies, such as how (and when) to integrate being employee-owned into marketing materials and strategies. This program was very different. It left people with a laundry list of very specific, very business-based ideas. "

"I’ve been traveling for NCEO for 25 years, and this was the best environment for this kind of program I have been in. In short, I give this program an A+ and strongly recommend ESOP managers attend."

The all-inclusive fee (all course work and supporting materials) is $1,950 and the enrollment will be space-limited, so enroll early. The class begins the evening of October 15, 2007 and ends mid-day October 18, 2007.

Enrollment information is available from the Beyster Institute at www.beysterinstitute.ucsd.edu or by contacting the program coordinator, Anthony Mathews, at 1-858-822-6010 or amathews@beysterinstitute.ucsd.edu.
